7/22/2024 – Cotton ranges from 12th node to 21 nodes with April planted cotton at cutout but the bulk
is at NAWF 6-8. We’ve had some pretty good Plant Bug pressure in spots coinciding with corn earlier
then adjacent to soybeans that were post bloom. We’ve used a lot of Transform and it has done a
good job then adding Diamond to the Transform or going with acephate plus a heavy rate of
imidacloprid or a pyrethroid if we needed a fast knockdown. We’ve got a long way to go yet but we’ve
just started getting some rains on what we can’t water, and crop potential looks good today.
Soybeans range from first bloom to early full seed. Bollworms have been the issue for the past 10
days in the younger still blooming beans or just done blooming . We’ve sprayed a couple thousand
acres, but the bulk have been borderline numbers and we’re holding for now. The only chemical
we’ve used to date on them is 5 oz/ac Intrepid Edge. It has done well. Rain and cooler temps are
predicted over the next week or more. I hope everyone can get some rain.

7/23/2024 – Soybeans range from 12 nodes and R2 through R6.5. Bollworms have been light and
unpredictable, running low numbers in most acres that are still blooming but I’ve only had to treat one
small block. We’re on the final watering of most of our late March/early April soybeans. Stinkbugs
pressure is picking up some but overall still light. Seeing more taproot decline that I’ve ever seen.
Bean behind bean acres are definitely worse of a noticeable amount even behind corn.

7/20/2024 – Corn – The corn crop in NE Mississippi is maturing very quickly and is past the dent
stage. We are continuing to have spotty rain showers and it has helped to mature the crop on out.
Neither diseases nor insects in corn have not been a problem this year.
Soybean crop continues to look good with blooms or pods on every plant. I was in fields yesterday
and with the recent rainfall, early planted beans are maturing quickly. I am observing increased
incidence of frogeye on sensitive varieties with a fungicide or fungicide mixture applied or to be
applied. To date I have not observed any major insect pressure.
Cotton crop continues to look good, however later than in past years due to major rainfall events in
May delaying planting. Fortunately, we are getting local rain showers which is really helping with more
expected this week. Insect pressure at this time continues to be low.

7/22/2024 – Rains over the last week have made a really big impact on the crops. Although they came
too late for the corn – beans, cotton and sweet potatoes have responded well.
Soybeans we’re looking at are mostly in the R3 to R5.5 stage. Pest wise beans are quiet. In some
places kudzu bugs are building but have already seen Beauveria knock out the higher populations.
Have seen some pod worms over the last week but nothing over 1/2 threshold.
Sweet potatoes look ok for the most part. Have treated a few fields for armyworms/cutworms. And the
regular flea beetles here and there.
Our cotton is looking good if it has had water. We do have some dryland fields in the edge of the delta
that’s blooming out the top and not knee high in parts of the field. Plants bugs have been relatively
light for the most part and control has been good. We had a lot move in early in some spots but
haven’t seen a large migration since. Diamond plus Transform is looking good. We do have some
pesky spider mites in several areas, probably going to be treating some soon.
